Ironing Instruction
Before you start with ironing, always check the ironing surface to see if it is clean! Otherwise clean with a damp sponge.
Printed T-shirts
Iron it from left side to protect the print.
In case of foil printing or pluster color printing, never iron over the print, otherwise this print will be broken.
Iron T-shirts with little steam, otherwise they could smell badly.
Skirt/Trousers
Turn skirt/trousers to left side and iron the lining. Then iron the fabric very carefully on left side.
Jacket
Turn the jacket completely to the left side and iron the sleeve lining first, possibly with a small sleeve ironing board.
Then
iron the jacket lining. Always make sure that the jacket inside pockets
are not crumpled, possibly smooth them before ironing.
Now turn the jacket and iron from the right side with a little steam.
After ironing put the jacket on a hanger.
Coat
Iron it like a jacket. Be careful with the outer fabric. By fluffy new wool work better with steam.
Blouse/Shirt
Always
iron the button and buttonhole strip from the left (ironing over
buttons is neither good for the iron nor for the buttons!). Then iron
the body, the collar, the sleeves and cuffs.
After ironing, put the blouse/shirt on a hanger.
Knitwear
Only steam seams on wrong side slightly. (Mixed fibers could be flattened to much, natural fibers could shrink !) It is better to hold up the iron about 10 cm (4") a light burst of steam.
Ties
Caution, ties are always made in bias binding and can be warped when washing or ironing.
Start with ironing on the wide part of the lining, continue with ironing the left side of the tie, then iron the right side very carefully, put a smooth cloth over it before.
Synthetic fiber
There is a lot of different synthetic fibers.
If the garment is made of synthetic fiber, always iron in at one point on the hem before ironing, proof the temperature.
Iron with very low temperature, otherwise the fiber will melt. Same thing can happen with certain sewing threads.
Lace
Be careful, many laces are made of polyester, iron them only with low temperature!
Embroideries
Iron them always from left side, use low temperature.
Silk
Iron silk only at low temperature and without steam, as some silk species get otherwise water spots.
Always
pay attention if silk is done in bias binding (e.g. negligee, lingerie,
...) -> be careful, that the silk does not warp.
Cotton and linen
Such items as table cloth or bed linen could be ironed with higher temperature.
Do not put the just ironed things immediately into the closet, as there may still be residual moisture from steaming in the garment. This could smell terribly.
